Jide Afolabi

Jide received his Bachelor of Arts (Highest Honours) in Law and Political Science from Carleton University in 1995. He then headed for Toronto to attend law school, and received his law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School (York University) in 1998. After that, he completed his articles of legal clerkship at Blake, Cassels & Graydon in Toronto, completed his bar exams, and was called to the Ontario bar in 2000.

He worked a bit before returning to school. This time for his Master of Laws, which he received from the London School of Economics in 2003. He was fortunate during his schooling to receive a number of academic awards, including the 1997 Magna for Canada scholarship.

In addition to Blake, Cassels & Graydon, Jide has worked at Magna International Inc., Carswell Inc., Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, and The Commons Institute. He has occupied the roles of Junior Counsel, Lead Counsel, Fiscal Negotiator, Senior Negotiator, and Managing Director.

Jide comes to the practice of law with quite a bit of experience, and with a deep commitment to providing accessible legal services. His belief is that law, as with all social, political and economic tools, should serve citizens, not the other way around. His skills as a lawyer, a negotiator and an entrepreneur, covering the business, judicial and governmental fields, make me well suited to delivering practical and tailored advice, and to the creation of truly innovative legal solutions for business concerns.

Jide serves on the boards of a number of community organizations. He is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada (Ontario).
