The Self-Employed Persons Program allows permanent immigration to Canada for self-employed individuals that meet set requirements.
Firstly, persons interested in this program must possess relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics, and must be willing to contribute within one of these domains within Canada.
Additional requirements are as follows:
Relevant Experience Individuals considering this program must meet a relevant experience requirement -- at least two years of relevant experience within the five years prior to application submission. As a result, interested individuals must assess whether they have been involved in:
cultural activities or athletics at a world-class level; or
self-employment in cultural activities or athletics.
Program Selection Criteria All candidates will also be assessed on additional criteria, such as:
education;
age;
language abilities; and
adaptability.
Medical and Security Verification All candidates, and family members as applicable., must provide proof that a medical exam has been completed.
Further, police certificates must also be provided. Biometrics, such as fingerprints and photos, may be requested for security purposes.
Program Administration Applications are thoroughly assessed, evaluated, and ranked using a point-based system. For example, a maximum of 100 points may be obtained with the Program’s Selection Criteria, and a minimum of 35 points is required for an application to receive consideration. As a result, filling an application as accurately as possible has a direct impact on points, and thus, the possibility of being selected.
Fraudulent or missing information can result in the refusal of an application, and candidates may also be barred from applying for Canadian immigration through any program for five years -- or in especially egregious cases, for life. As a result, and to reiterate, accuracy is of great importance.
